Sukhothai is Thailand as it once was. Loosely translated, Sukhothai means "The Dawn of Happiness" or maybe "
Sukhothai is situated at the lowest point of the Northern Thailand Provinces - or as some would have it, at the highest point of the Central Provinces. It is much nearer to Chiang Mai than Bangkok - 300km against 425km or so.
A land-locked province, Sukhothai is nevertheless a strong visitor attraction - competing with the southern 'coasted' provinces for the more discerning traveller. It is easily reached, with good transportation links.
