Thailand is approximately 1,600 kms from northernmost point to southern tip. Actual "As crow flies" distance from Chiang Mai - the main Northern City - to Phuket - the main southern destination is around 1200km. It is considerably further by road! The area covered by the Kingdom of Thailand equates to that of France. Thailand is graced with around 2,500 km of coastline. All in the East and Southern areas, with no coast in the North of the country. The difference in temperatures between North and South can be several degrees in the summer months and considerably more during the winter, when it is not unusual to have frosts in some Northern parts. |
